Homecooked Piri Piri Chicken with Side Salad

Untitled1

I cooked today! It is no masterpiece, so do not get your hopes up high, and I am at best a bumbling fool in the kitchen. But since I had time on hand, I decided to make a trip to the supermarket and cook dinner for my mother since dad and sis were not around (anyway, no point giving the whole family food poisoning).

And here is the final product…

I thought it looked pretty good (what’s more, I did not burn down the kitchen, yeah!). And the colouration is quite scary and that reflects the amount of spiciness that went into the chicken! I was amazed at how fiery hot it turned out, guess I underestimated the potency of the seasoning.

The Lawn Cafe

Untitled7

I have returned to The Lawn Cafe, not once, but twice since my first visit. It has quickly become a huge hit with my family due to its proximity, affordability and healthy eating factor. I know that when we go there for lunch or dinner, my mum has no need to nag at us about fulfilling our daily intake of fruits and vegetables.

So here are some of things we have tried…

Capriocciosa: Italian food by Japanese

After work I went to meet my mum at Capriocciosa, an Italian restaurant at JCube. It was a rather interesting restaurant as the original chef was a Japanese who went to Italy to study cooking. Back then it was still rare for that occurrence to happen. He went back to Japan and open his Italian restaurant. From there, it became a chain of restaurants.

The decor was bright and full of contrasting textures.

Love latte! Probably my favourite type of coffee. The layers are so pretty!

20120527-185142.jpg
Huge huge tuna and calamari salad with house dressing. I have a thing for tuna salad. No matter what dressing, it is still good.

20120527-185146.jpg
The pepperocini with steamed chicken was similar to aglio olio but more soupy. I would have preferred it to be more spicy.

20120527-185151.jpg
The pappardelle (very broad fettuccine) with porcini and eringi mushrooms was fantastic. Never had such a broad pasta before and the pasta was freshly made. Great dish!

Affordable place and great location for lunch and dinner. Will definitely be back for more fresh pasta!

Lunch at Covelli

Last weekend, I had lunch at Covelli, a new Italian place at the basement of Orchard Central. The reviews on hungrygowhere were great and I always have an appetite for Italian food.

A narcissistic photo of myself. My hair roots are showing though. Going to get my hair done this Wednesday.

While the eatery may look small from the outside, it stretches lengthwise towards the end of the building, with seats on both sides of the corridor.

We were bombarded with an array of choices, only to be told by the staff that some were not available as the demand was so good the day before and their supplier did not have enough fresh seafood to offer.

Bread was served warm but without vinegar or olive oil. Quite a downer for me.

20120423-192136.jpg
Next, was the seared tuna salad. It’s different from the usual tuna flakes and the sauce is slightly spicy. Quite an interesting taste.

20120423-192140.jpg
The mushroom soup was a delight. Rich and foamy.

20120423-192145.jpg
The presentation of the tenderloin was pleasing to the eyes. However, the meat was well-done when my dad requested for medium rare and the cut was a bit small.

I love my prosciutto argula pizza! The crust was thin, tomato sauce was aromatic and it was oh-so-good.

20120423-192200.jpg
This was followed by dessert. Coffee cheesecake for me. A light espresso cheesecake mousse with crumble at the bottom and topped with flakes of dark chocolate.

My family ordered the hi-tea set. It was cheap, at only $13.90. But the items were nothing to brag about.

The set also came with two pots of tea. The pots were small but the staff was generous with the refills of hot water.

This is quite a good place for gatherings or meals with your family.
