Antoinette ‘La Patisserie au Sofitel’ @ Sofitel So Singapore (Media Tasting)

This is my second visit to Sofitel So Singapore (you can read about my first visit here) and this time it was for desserts! Antoinette has now opened an outlet in the Central Business District and it is located right at the lobby of the hotel. You will be glad to hear that the entire selection of pastry is available everyday only at this outlet, and not only on weekends as at the other Antoinette outlets!

While the seating area might look small here, you may actually take your pastries anywhere within the lobby, which seats up to 50. It is a great location to just relax and have tea while enjoying the delectable selection of pastries and cakes offered.

The star of the show… Satay Swirl ($3.50), which was inspired by Satay Street of Lau Pa Sat next door and specially created for Sofitel So Singapore by Chef Kok Keong. Chef Pang added more spices so that the satay flavour is more pronounced and not covered up by the richness of the dough.

[Newly Opened] Mon Bijou: A Taste of France @ Claymore Connect (Media Tasting)

Mon Bijou, an authentic French bistro has opened at Claymore Connect, formerly known as Orchard Hotel Shopping Arcade. Connected to Orchard Hotel through a side door at the lobby, the first tenant you see as you pass through the doorway is Mon Bijou.

The bistro is one of the latest F&B brands by Millennium Hotels and Resorts. Featuring almost everything from appetisers to desserts in its all-day dining menu and takeaway counter, Mon Bijou has something for everyone at all times of the day (within opening hours, of course).

As we awaited for others to arrive at the pre-launch, we got to savour some of the drinks on their menu:

  • Milky Sunrise: Mango ice cream, peach syrup and milk
  • Gold Coast: English Breakfast Tea, rose tea and passionfruit
  • Creamy Grass: Moroccan Mint Tea, mint syrup and milk

Unfortunately, I did not manage to get down all the names and the prices. However, I would strongly recommend Milky Sunrise! It was a winning combination of all three flavours. On the other hand, Creamy Grass was a let down. It looked the nicest and got the most “wows” as it appeared, but it had a strong milky taste and bland mint flavour.

The appetisers were a sight to behold! Here are some that we tried:

  • Caprese Salad ($16) and Summer Greek Salad ($12)
  • Smoked salmon, avocado cucumber on mini olive panini
  • Truffle scrambled eggs on black & white toast
  • Chicken Nuggets with Honey Mustard Sauce ($12)

No complaints about the appetisers. They tasted as good as they looked.

Catalunya’s Weekend Brunch with Passion @ Fullerton Pavilion (Media Tasting)

I was delighted to be invited to Catalunya for a weekend brunch tasting by Burpple some time back. I had heard and read many good things about the restaurant but never had an opportunity to try it for myself.

The restaurant is located at The Fullerton Pavilion, which is off Clifford Pier and between One Fullerton and Fullerton Bay hotel. And as you can see from the picture below, the place offers a panoramic view of the bay as well as Marina Bay Sands.

With the expansive floor to ceiling windows, you are able to enjoy the beautiful city backdrop while dining on authentic and contemporary Spanish cuisine. The 4,300 square foot restaurant comfortably seats 120 people and diners may choose to dine indoors or alfresco.

As for the main reason I was there, Catalunya’s Weekend Brunch with Passion is a stunning selection of Spanish food, with everything from cured meats to salads and seafood! The semi-buffet brunch is available every Saturday and Sunday from 12.30 to 3.30pm. There is only one seating for and it is a whole THREE HOURS of indulgence!

In addition to the wide variety of food, if you go for the brunch on the last weekend of the month, you will be entitled to a Bingo Game, where you can get to win dining vouchers at Catalunya. The game really kept each of us diners on our toes!

During weekend brunch, the bar area of Catalunya is transformed into sections of food: Market Selection, Charcuterie, Cheese, Salad, Fish and Fresh Juice.

Capri Trattoria & Pizzeria @ Binjai Park (Media Tasting)

The only reason why I used to frequent Binjai Park, along Bukit Timah Road, is because of Ivins, one of my favourite places for Peranakan food. This time around, another restaurant drew me to this street lined with shophouses, tucked away in a residential estate.

Capri Trattoria & Pizzeria is a small neighbourhood restaurant which opened in 2011 and went through a change in management in 2014. This restaurant prides itself on authentic Italian preparation and cooking methods, as well as its monthly regional specials menu.

The first sight that greeted us was homemade pasta drying on a pole, which accounts for the light and springy texture in the pastas we had later on. Also, you can also smell the aroma of freshly baked bread and pizzas from the brick oven behind the row of pasta. Both the bread and pizza bread were fresh!

The owner, Fabrizio, was very friendly and even dined with us. We found out that he is very accompanied. Not only is he a Dive Master, he is a judo instructor and a sports enthusiast as well. During the course of the meal, Head Chef Domenico, also made appearances throughout the meal to introduce dishes to us.

Before we got started with our meal, we were offered a drink, Spitz ($15). The beverage is a mixture of Prosecco (Italina sparkling wine) and Aperol (Italian aperitif), and usually served before or after a meal. The alcoholic drink is then infused with sweet oranges, cinchona bark and gentian root.

Long Weekend Tunch at Indulge at Park @ Grand Park City Hall (Media Tasting)

After having the dumplings from Park Palace, also located at Grand Park City Hall, I could not wait to see what Indulge at Park had in store for us. We were invited to try their Long Weekend Tunch (which stands for lunch and tea), available every Saturday and Sunday afternoon till 28 September 2015.

The weekend afternoon buffet costs $45++ for adults and $22.50++ for children (4 to 12 years old). The spread encompasses 80 items, carriying both lunch and tea favourites, such as Hong Kong roast duck, Penang rojak and kueh pie tee.

I planned to reach early to take undisturbed photographs of the food and it was a great call because the desserts looked so pretty!

[Newly Opened] Tête-à-Tête Cafe @ Biopolis, Buona Vista

So glad that there are more cafes opening in the west and Biopolis seems to be a hub for cafes! Tête-à-Tête Cafe is located at Nucleos, one of buildings in the cluster, just a few feet away from Curbside Cafe & Wine Bar. The cafe is really spacious and offers great photo-taking opportunities with its full-length windows.

As I entered the cafe, my eyes were first drawn to the beautiful display of desserts at the entrance, then to the classy and timeless black and white decor.

The staff was very patient with us and took some time to explain the individual desserts. Honestly, that made it more difficult for us to decide what to order as everything sounded so good.

Lady M @ Orchard Central

I finally made a trip down to Lady M @ Orchard Central after passing by it so many times and admiring the beautiful glass structure from the outside. The cafe is indeed a sight to behold with all the floor to ceiling windows.

The place is not very friendly for young children and elderly with all the stairs. It also occurred to me that the staff there must get a workout from climbing the steps everyday.
