Spago by Wolfgang Puck at MBS

Located on the 57th floor of Marina Bay Sands, right next to the famous infinity pool is Celebrity Chef Wolfgang Puck‘s second restaurant Spago. The fine dining restaurant serves Californian cuisine with global accents.

Starters

Big Eye Tuna Tartare Cones, which came with chilli aioli, soy, wasabi, shaved bonito, scallions and masago (capelin roe). This dish while delicious was not exactly memorable.

Chicken ‘Laksa’ Spring Roll. I was pleasantly surprised to find authentic laksa rice vermicelli and chicken chunks wrapped in the roll. The roll was then served with calamansi, chilli padi and laksa leaf. An extremely filling dish perfect for sharing.

We were then served a warm bread basket accompanied with a small marble slab of butter.

Main Course

Our first main course was the Steamed Norwegian Salmon. It was served with bok choy, choy sum, lotus root, sweet soy and lemongrass scented Jamin rice. As you can tell from the ingredients, the dish has an Oriental influence and is comparable to the typical steamed fish dishes in Chinese restaurants except for the fact that the choice of fish is Western.

I always love it when my burgers come with brioche buns because they are light and buttery, a soft pillow for the meats to rest. The Grilled Angus Beef Burger also came with aged cheddar, onion marmalade, chilli aioli and french fries.

Dessert

Coconut-Passion Fruit Trifle. Coconut mousse, almond-nutmeg meringue and passionfruit cream. I did not enjoy my dessert as there was not enough coconut to balance the acidity of the passionfruit.

Verdict

Overall, I must say that the food here did not live up to my expectations after the fantastic meal I had at CUT by Wolfgang Puck.
