If the name Atmosphere Cafe & Bistro sounds familiar to you, it is because you have probably heard of its sister bistro Atmosphere Bistro Bar, located at Parkland Green @ East Coast Park. This is their latest venture further inland from the coast, in one of the newest malls, Alexandra Central.
You will find that the decor here differs greatly from the one at East Coast Park. I love how bright and spacious the place is. A very comfortable and classy hangout with the high back cushioned chairs and marble tables, which makes you feel like spending your afternoon next to the window and savouring a cup of coffee.
What will draw patrons to this cafe is the wonderful 3D coffee art. I shall let the pictures speak for themselves.
We were very fortunate to have the experienced barista in house. We did not request for any specific characters but you can probably tell that she is good at what she does! The price of the coffee ranges from $4 for an Espresso to $10.50 for a Baileys Latte. If you would like something decaffeinated but with 3d art, you may order a hot chocolate.
Featuring some sides that we tried, Caesar Salad ($6.80), Atmosphere Fries ($7.80) and Battered Mushrooms ($6.80). Overall, other than the salad, the portions of the appetisers were as small as I remembered from the bistro at East Coast park. I was not too impressed with the salad as the sauce was more mayonnaise than Caesar. Also, the fries were salted and lacking in the homemade chef seasoning. However, I would say that the fries were actually quite addictive.
I shall not spend too much time on the main courses, which were honestly nothing much to rave about and not the main focus of the cafe. We tried Baby Back Ribs ($21.80) and Battered Fish ($17.80). The ribs were on the dry side and I could not take much of it. The fish was better than the ribs, but a more discerning person would find better alternatives elsewhere.
Chicken Meatballs Baked Pasta ($15.80). Penne with mushrooms and chicken meatballs, topped with melted cheese. This was passable with the sauce and pasta, but I felt it could do with bigger meatballs. By the way, you may opt for a baked rice instead of pasta.
A signature of Atmosphere Bistro is their Flaming Pizza ($14.80), which is sight to behold! A pizza topped with prawns, salami, capsicum and assorted mushrooms, then alcohol is poured over and set afire.
I cannot remember the exact price of the Strawberry Shortcake and Lemon Meringue Tart. The cake was too heavy and can get a bit cloying towards the end. However, the tart was a perfect balance of sweet and sour.
Atmosphere Molten Lava Cake ($12.80), served with berries, crumble and vanilla ice cream. The reason why the chocolate centre was not flowing was because we waited too long to take pictures of it and nothing to do with how the chef prepared it. There has been some improvement since the last time I tried their cake.
Marigold ($12.80), a white version of the cake above. White chocolate cake with oozing cheese molten centre, served with Chantilly cream and maple syrup. While this was delicious, I preferred the chocolate one more as this was too sweet. In addition, the Chantilly cream could use more vanilla.
Fluffy Snowfall ($12.80). Double stacked pancakes with choice of banana, strawberry or chocolate filling, topped with homemade fluff sauce, seasonal fruits and two assorted macarons. This is absolutely Instagram-worthy!
If you are looking for something affordable, give their Lunch Set a try. A main course, salad/ appetiser and snack/ beverage from $12.80, on Mondays to Fridays from 11am to 3pm. Do take note that this is not available on eve of and Public Holidays or special days (e.g. Mothers’ Day).
MY VERDICT: I would recommend for you to have lunch some place else before heading to Atmosphere for coffee and dessert.
