Mon Bijou, an authentic French bistro has opened at Claymore Connect, formerly known as Orchard Hotel Shopping Arcade. Connected to Orchard Hotel through a side door at the lobby, the first tenant you see as you pass through the doorway is Mon Bijou.
The bistro is one of the latest F&B brands by Millennium Hotels and Resorts. Featuring almost everything from appetisers to desserts in its all-day dining menu and takeaway counter, Mon Bijou has something for everyone at all times of the day (within opening hours, of course).
As we awaited for others to arrive at the pre-launch, we got to savour some of the drinks on their menu:
- Milky Sunrise: Mango ice cream, peach syrup and milk
- Gold Coast: English Breakfast Tea, rose tea and passionfruit
- Creamy Grass: Moroccan Mint Tea, mint syrup and milk
Unfortunately, I did not manage to get down all the names and the prices. However, I would strongly recommend Milky Sunrise! It was a winning combination of all three flavours. On the other hand, Creamy Grass was a let down. It looked the nicest and got the most “wows” as it appeared, but it had a strong milky taste and bland mint flavour.
The appetisers were a sight to behold! Here are some that we tried:
- Caprese Salad ($16) and Summer Greek Salad ($12)
- Smoked salmon, avocado cucumber on mini olive panini
- Truffle scrambled eggs on black & white toast
- Chicken Nuggets with Honey Mustard Sauce ($12)
No complaints about the appetisers. They tasted as good as they looked.

Spaghetti Carbonara ($16). Spaghetti cooked with crispy bacon, white wine, cream and topped with shaved Parmesan cheese. As with all cream based pasta, do not take too long to take picture of this. It is hard because it is so Instagram-worthy!
Sliders Trio ($22). A combination of Mon Bijou Crabby Patty, “Ngoh Hiang” Chicken and Classic Beef Burger, with a side of fries. This is a great choice for a main course because you get to try all three burgers in one dish. Also, the portion is generous enough that you do get quite full afterwards.
Crab Cake Benedict ($20). Two poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce, crab cake, sauteed spinach, homemade hash brown, served with black & white toast.
A sampler of Brioche Caramelised Waffle with Banana and Chocolate ($10) in the foreground and Mon Bijou Brioche French Toast with Strawberry ($14) in the background. Not certain if it was the brioche in the mixture, but the waffle was a tad too mushy for my liking. However, I did enjoy the caramelised flavour with the banana and bitter sweet chocolate.
As for the french toast, the thick slices of bread were first soaked in a mixture of beaten eggs and then fried. Among the two, I preferred the toast as it was fluffy in the middle and the essence of it was not compromised by trying to be too creative.
And then… the dessert buffet of sampler sizes desserts, which consisted of:
- Red & Black Fruit Sable ($7.80)
- Durian Choux Puff
- Yuzu Lemon Tart ($6.80)
- Creme Brulee in Glass($16.80 for a set of six)
- Durian Chocolate Lollipop
- Raspberry & Lychee Macaroon ($7.80)
Surprisingly, out of all the desserts, my favourites were the durian based ones. The key ingredient while Asian in origin, and far from France, was perfectly executed in both choux and chocolate forms. Another dessert that I liked was the lemon tart. The lemon was not too tart (pun intended) and the meringue saccharine enough for a sweet tooth like me.
Assorted Chocolates ($2.20 each). Under their retail section, you can take home with you yummy treats from financiers and madeleines to truffles and pralines. Flavours for the chocolates change monthly!
Assorted Macarons ($2.20 each, $14.60 for six pieces in a box). There is a range for you to choose from: Chocolate Lavender, Mango Jasmine, Tarragon Lemon, Hibiscus Raspberry, Carrot Orange, Strawberry Basil, Salted Caramel & Thyme and Lime Mint.
Honestly, I was not too impressed by the macarons that I took home with me. Other than the flavouring of the macarons, which was quite strong, and the pretty colours, the other aspectes needed improvement. Some of the shells were quite brittle with lots of air pockets.
