Wow! I must say Capitol Piazza is looking spiffy these few days! And one of the first few tenants to commence its operation is Dazzling Cafe! This Taiwanese cafe is the first branch in Southeast Asia and some of us had been anticipating its opening.
The cafe is undeniably pretty and we noticed that the patrons here are mostly females (only two males accompanying their partners in a full house). Anyway, Dazzling Cafe has two storeys but is only serving on the first floor as they are still looking for more manpower to run its full capacity while sustaining quality.
The cafe is currently having it s soft launch, so opening hours are from 12 to 8pm (last order 7.30pm). We went there on a weekday around 4pm and the queue was not very long. The wait time however was about 30 minutes so we left our number with them and went to another restaurant for lunch first.
We ordered the Truffle Fries ($10.90) to enjoy some savoury food before gorging on desserts. The fries are not flavoured with truffle oil like what most cafes are doing in Singapore. Rather, they are using shaved truffle, which is more valuable. Be that as it may, I found myself missing truffle oil as the flavour was too subtle.
Next, we had Valrhona Chocolate Waffle ($12.90), which is made up of eight little “tear drops”, easy for sharing. We topped up $2.50 for some Bailey’s ice cream which was pretty yummy! The ice cream, I heard from Eileen, is from Haagen-Dazs. Other than the Bailey’s, you can also opt for chocolate ice cream or mochi.
Lastly, the extremely Instagram-worthy Hazelnut Chocolate Honey Toast ($19.90). The toast comes with a choice of Soft, Normal or Crispy and since it was our first visit, the staff recommended that we tried Normal. The toast arrived perfectly crispy with a soft inside and we thought that if we had ordered Crispy, it might have been too hard. The toast is then topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
The crispy tower is actually filled with small cubes of toast filled with Nutella in the centre. The staff recommended that we scooped some ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce along with every bite, hence accounting for the messy picture.
My verdict? I LOVED IT! I know some people think it is only ok or that it is overpriced (I consider $20 pretty pricey for toast), but this tower of toast was phenomenal! I guess taste can be subjective.
