Restaurant Week 2015: Match Restaurant and Lounge @ Pan Pacific Hotel

We went for the $35++ three course dinner menu at Match Restaurant and Lounge at Pan Pacific Hotel. Initially the reservation email stated that it was at Marina Square, however my dad googled it and found out that it was located outside Pan Pacific Hotel.

Match Restaurant, an American steakhouse, took over the former location of Royal Room. The restaurant has a slinky and contemporary bistro feel with it comfy tufted chairs and turned down lights. Please pardon the pictures as the lighting was quite bad.

Smoked White Corn Chowder with duck liver croustade and chives. Thoroughly enjoyed how they jazzed up a normal chowder by exposing it to smoke.

Norwegian Salmon Crudo. Avocados, dill, rice crackers and lemon oil. A tad too fishy for me, but the rest of my family seemed fine with it. I can never take fish with this fishy odour, as it kinds of detract the attention from the eating experience.

Pan-Roasted Golden Snapper, with grilled zucchinis, soft parmesan polenta, crispy baby squid and lobster tarragon emulsion. Sis liked it but found that there were too many things going on.

Charcoal-Grilled 150 Day Grain-Fed Australian Ribeye, with roasted bone marrow, caramelised pearl onions, creamed kale and cress, in red wine shallot sauce. All components of this dish beautifully complemented each other.

Charcoal-Grilled Free Range Acorn-Fed Deraza Iberico Pork Collar. Maple glazed butternut pumpkin, shaved asparagus and roasted jalapeno chimichurri. This made me glad that for once I did not order the steak option.

For desserts, we had both the Chocolate Peanuts & Caramel and Warm Pear & Pecan Brioche & Butter Pudding. I did not upload any pictures as they turned down the lights even more afterwards, so I could not get any decent photos.

The chocolate dessert is a must-try for peanut butter lovers as the peanut butter mousse was very strong. The honeycomb ice cream that came along with it was no slacker on its own too. The bread and butter pudding on the other hand was served with a rather oily phyllo pastry that got too heavy towards the end. Overall, I wished the desserts came in smaller portions as they were rather heavy.
