Tanyoto Hotpot @ Liang Court

I am a huge fan of steamboats, especially 麻辣 (ma la), which translates to numbingly spicy. My mum had been raving about the 麻辣 soup at Tanyoto Hotpot @ Liang Court, Clake Quay for a while now and because of all the more affordable steamboat options around, I had never gotten to try theirs.

However, just recently, my mum made reservations for my family to have a hotpot dinner at Tanyoto Hotpot. In spite of the Japanese sounding name, the restaurant is from Sichuan, China. The main dining area is on the first floor and we were given a private room on the second floor to dine in.

Tanyoto Hotpot utilises an iPad ordering system, like many restaurants nowadays. The menu can be viewed in either Chinese or English and food items are clearly organised into different categories.

A wide variety of sauces can be found on the first floor, with a “Tanyoto Dipping Sauce Recipe” guide affixed to the wall. Free flow of dipping sauces is chargeable at $3 per person. Honestly, I found that too exorbitant and this would be my first and last time having the sauces. Fortunately, the soups are flavourful enough to go with the meats.

What I like about this place is that each patron will get a bib, to prevent anything from splashing onto your clothes. Also, it did help a little to keep the smell from sticking on too.

We got a double pot of Tanyoto Fresh Fish Soup and Tanyoto Peppery Soup with Capsicum for $14. Be amazed at how many soup bases this place has to offer. The two we got were recommended by the staff for first timers as they go well together and the clear soup helps to “put out the fire” of the peppery one.

Overall, we spent $80 for a filling meal for the three of us. This is inclusive of the soup bases, dipping sauces and all food items. Admittedly, this restaurant is pricier and more upscale compared to other steamboat/ hotpot places. However, what you pay is what you get. Hence, expect fresh and top quality food here.

At the end of the meal, my mum purchased a membership card. With a top up of $400, she got an additional $150 credited into her account for free.
