I found two good hangout spots for lunch last week with a few of my good friends. The first is Privé @ Chijmes and the other is Portico, both coincidentally start with ‘P’. I enjoyed the food and relaxing ambiance of both restaurants.
1. Privé @ Chijmes
If you have been to Chijmes, you will know that this historic building dating back to 1841 which has been converted to an entertainment complex is filled with restaurants and cafes. While it may have undergone extensive development and reconstruction, the remarkable facade as well as area filled with rich heritage remain unchanged.
Privé is one of the restaurants that have set up shop at this unique venue. The restaurant is made up of a combination of indoor and alfresco dining areas. Its glass doors can be tucked away to create a huge open space, which makes it perfect for a casual weekend or a get-together with family and friends.
Here are some of the dishes we ordered:
Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Crispy Pork Belly ($18), tossed with Bird’s Eye chilli and basil.
Ultimate Signature Breakfast ($20). Two eggs of any style (scrambled eggs featured here), 6-inch chicken frankfurter, maple-roasted bacon, roasted Roma tomato, sautéed Button mushrooms, potato rosti and homemade wholemeal bread.
Ice Cream Sandwich ($14). Toasted caramelised brioche, balsamic-macerated strawberries, vanilla bean ice cream and chocolate sauce.
Sticky Date Toffee Pudding ($12). Homemade butterscotch, walnuts and vanilla bean ice cream.

The second restaurant is Portico, a newcomer on the scene, and it is located in the Alexandra area. Recently, it has received raved reviews during Restaurant Week, however I did not manage to get a reservation then. Hence, I decided to make a trip down last week to try the a la carte menu for myself.
The restaurant is broken up into an intimate main dining room, bar and lounge area. Also, the comfortable furnishings are made to make you feel right at home.
And this is what we had that day:
Truffle fries ($14).
Portico Chicken Wings with chilli lime dip (5 pieces for $15).
The Portico Club Chicken and Bacon Open-Faced Sandwich ($18), served with egg mayo and toasted bread.
Classic Fish and Chips ($23), served with crushed peas and mint from their garden.
Carrot Cake ($14), with cream cheese frosting, orange ginger marmalade and oat crumbs.
Milk Chocolate Mousseline ($13), with Thai mango fluid gel and hazelnut chocolate soil.
