Lunch at { croute }

Untitled1

Sis and I headed to Valley Point, which was popular with my family because we love Dozo and often had birthday celebrations there (missing it already, still cannot believe that they have closed their doors), as well as Absolute Yoga for hot yoga sessions. However, this time around, our visit was for a different reason. We went there just to try Croute.

Initially we had kept wondering where the outlet was based on the unit number but we worried for naught! The storefront is so striking that you cannot help but notice it from the entrance of the mall. Also, Croute spans two shop spaces and it is roomy.

When we asked the staff what was good, he did not offer anything constructive, simply stating that “everything is good here.” I detest overconfidence in restaurants, unless they are able to deliver and it was not very helpful of him to make sweeping statements like that.

For your information, they have many specials which are not on their menu, so you might want to check with them before placing your order at the counter.

I really loved what they have done with the interior. It is really welcoming and roomy.

I started off with a banana milkshake ($6.50). The drink was thick and viscous. I enjoyed the consistency and flavour of the milkshake.

My sis felt her latte ($5.50), which came heavily recommended by said staff, fell flat.

It was the same for the Eggs Sardou ($21), one of the specials that she ordered. New Orleans creamed spinach and mushrooms, roasted garlic artichokes, poached eggs, creole hollandaise, and homemade buttermilk biscuit.

Sounds yummy but there was nothing she liked about the dish except for the bread. And from a third person point of view, I must say these were the ugliest poached eggs I have ever seen and they were overcooked.

That said, I must admit that I enjoyed their Croute Burger, single patty ($15). Brioche bun, lettuce, tomato, fresh onion, herb mayo and oak smoked cheddar. The beef was juicy and the brioche bun was awesome. I hope my picture has done the burger justice. In hindsight, I should have ordered a double patty.
